All the Regional A&S Faires have been scheduled for Spring 2017:
- February 4, 2017, Constellation Regional A&S Faire/Better War Through Archery, Barony of Sternfeld, Danville, IN
- March 11, 2017, Pentamere Regional Faire, Barony of Northwoods, Howell MI
- March 25, 2017 Midlands Regional Faire, Incipient Shire of Rúnviðarstaðr, Warren IL
- April 1, 2017, North Oaken Regional Faire, Shire of Rivenvale, Warren OH
- April 22, 2017, South Oaken Regional Faire, Barony of the Flame, Louisville KY
Pentathlons and Divisional entries must be entered in the region in which the entrant resides. All other entries are welcome at any Regional Faire, no matter where the entrant lives, HOWEVER — this year, if you plan on entering a Regional Faire that is not in the region in which you live, you must let your RMOAS know that you plan to enter at another Region’s Faire, and why. (We’re tracking this information to serve the Faire Community better!)
The maximum number of entries one entrant can enter in one faire season is capped at seven entries. If all seven entries are presented at one faire, only ve entries will be eligible for face-to- face judging. Face-to-face judging is default, but not required. You may always request “docs- only” judging, for which you need not be present. Mail-in entries are not guaranteed a face-to-face judging opportunity.
The deadline for mail-in entries for ALL REGIONS will be January 10. If your mail-in type entry receives a first or second place, and is eligible to go to the Kingdom Faire, and you wish for it to have a second judging — you must return it to the Judges Coordinator by the end of the week following the Regional Faire in which it was presented, and you will receive the results at the Kingdom Faire. A second judging for mail-in entries is OPTIONAL. If the entry does not reach the Judges Coordinator by the second judging deadline, the Regional Score will stand as the final score. (For example, a research paper presented at the Constellation RA&S, on February 4, 2017, receives a second place. If a second judging is desired, the paper must go back in to the Judges Coordinator by midnight, February 12, 2017.)
I would also like to present the new Judges Coordinator, Mistress Heodez Sofonisba di Talento Minotto (Courtney Hess). Her experience as an entrant, pentathlon competitor and Kingdom A&S Champion, plus her service to Arts and Sciences as a teacher and a judge, as well as her service at the Regional Faires, Craftspersons’ Faires and in the tally room make her very well t to serve the A&S community as a Judges Coordinator.
There are other new things that will be happening with this Faires this year and through the next few A&S seasons. I will post more in my next Pale letter, but your Regional Arts & Sciences Of cer can also advise you about any changes that may affect your entries.
But before we got to the Faire season, we still have a Craftsperson’s Faire at Christmas Tourney, and several 12th Night Events, which are always full of A&S goodness! I must remind you that our King has called for a great A&S Competition to be held at Pentamere 12th Night, January 7, 2017, in the Barony of Cinnabar, Howell, MI. See the Event Page for the latest details.
I hope that as the winter approaches, you dig into the wonderful arts and crafts you can do indoors, and that you stay warm and merry as you develop your knowledge and skill!
Yours in Service to the Arts and Sciences,
Halla of Mugmort, OP
