ARTS & SCIENCES Regional A&S Season is now upon us! I am excited about the Faire Season! Registration for Entrants and Judges is NOW OPEN as of January 1, 2017!

  • February 4, 2017: Constellation Regional A&S Faire/Better War Through Archery, Barony of Sternfeld, Danville, IN
  • March 11, 2017: Pentamere Regional Faire, Barony of Northwoods, Howell, MI
  • March 25, 2017 Midlands Regional Faire, Incipient Shire of Rúnviðarstaðr, Warren IL
  • April 1, 2017: North Oaken Regional Faire, Shire of Rivenvale, Warren, OH
  • April 22, 2017: South Oaken Regional Faire, Barony of the Flame, Louisville, KY

Deadline for mail-in entries for ALL REGIONS is January 10, 2017. If your mail-in entry receives a first or second place entry, and is eligible to register for the Kingdom Faire, and you wish for it to have a second judging — you must return it to the Judges Coordinator by the end of the week following the Regional Faire in which it was presented, and you will receive the results if your piece is at Kingdom Faire. A second judging for mail-in entries is OPTIONAL. If the entry does not reach the Judges Coordinator by the second judging deadline, the Regional Score will stand as the final score. Mail-in entries are not guaranteed a face-to-face judging opportunity.

Pentathlons and Divisional entries must be entered in the region in which the entrant resides. All other entries are welcome at any regional faire, no matter where the entrant lives. HOWEVER — this year, if you plan on entering a Regional Faire that is not in the region in which you live, you must let your RMOAS know that you plan to enter at another Regional Faire, and why. (We’re tracking this information to serve the Faire Community better!)

The maximum number of entries one entrant can enter in one faire season is capped at seven entries. If all seven entries are presented at onefaire, only five entries will be eligible for face-to-face judging. Face-to-face judging is default, but not required. You may always request “docs only” judging, for which you need not be present.

Some changes to the tally room staff that you may want to note: After 20 years of service at Regional and Kingdom Faires at the heart of the tally room, Baron Vorlin o’r Gwig will be training the next Deputy Faire Coordinator, Lady Bi Mei (Lynda Byatt). Bi Mei began her career of service in the Society at her very first event, and has been a great boon to the tally room over the past few years. Her Ladyship Sarai Tindall has accepted the role of Faire Scheduler, and will be assisting Mistress Heodez Sofonsiba de Talento Minotto (Judges Coordinator) and all the Regional MOAS in the process of scheduling and assigning judges for each Faire.

Remember that your RMOAS is a good resource for all things related to the A&S Faires! Obviously, things will be different this year — make sure to attend the “Participants Meeting” (formerly the “Judges Meeting”) at your Regional Faire to get up to speed with these exciting developments!

I can hardly wait to see all the great entries our incredibly talented community will bring forth!

Yours in Service to the Arts and Sciences,
Halla of Mugmort OP
