In Service
William & Isolde, Prince and Princess of the Middle Kingdom
Greetings to the populace of the Known World from the Royal Highnesses of the kingdoms of Aethelmearc, Ealdormere, East, Middle and Northshield.
We are making a public notice of our intentions for Pennsic War as follows: The mighty kingdoms of Aethelmearc and Northshield shall meet the mighty kingdoms of Ealdormere, East and Middle in a contest of truly epic proportions.
All other kingdoms, non-aligned households and mercenary companies are politely requested to fight with the Aethelmearc-Northshield Alliance in order to ensure the sides are fair and even for all of the battles.
Our number one goal for Pennsic is for everyone to have fun and bring back a little old school Pennsic magic to the many battle scenarios we have planned. We will also be focusing on archery, the arts and sciences, and service, which will all be included in war point battles.
As an added bonus the heavy weapons woods battle will return to the previous location off Zion Church Road.
If you have left the Pennsic family, we are hoping this is the war you choose to return. Rejoin the camaraderie, spirit and fun. We promise this Pennsic will be something special and one for the ages. Come back to Pennsic.
Sometimes that is all that separates victory from defeat. Among the hundreds of shafts that flew at Hastings it took only one to strike Harold in the eye and cripple the English efforts to repel William’s invasion.
One arrow and the Normans took England. One fewer arrow and the English might have won.
One arrow is sometimes all that’s required, but that arrow needs an archer.
One arrow from one bow.
One arrow from one archer.
Be that archer, draw that bow, shoot that arrow, make a difference.
Yours might be the arrow that wins the war.
Your King and Queen need your help. If you are going to Pennsic this year, please come up to the archery range and be that one arrow. If you would like to do more, come to the Pennsic Champions practice/tryouts and try out for the team. Tryouts are at 5:00 pm Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of war week.
Greetings Unto the Archers of the Midrealm from Baniarla Aibhilin ni Dhomhnaill, Lt. General for Target Archery
Spring is finally upon us and with it comes Archery Season!! If you are no lucky enough to have an indoor range, it is time to dust off those bows and pull out your arrows. I am very excited to announce that we will be looking for candidates for the Pennsic Archer Champions team. Yes, anyone can try out for the team. To do so, all you need to do is practice, practice, practice and, of course, get to as many archery events as you can. Check the Kingdom Calendar. There are already a number of events scheduled that will have archery and in May there are two events that are focused solely on archery – Pentamere’s Archer College and Fletchings of Spring.
I am also strongly encouraging all archers to participate in the Seasonal Archery Challenge and the SPACS or the Middle Kingdom Royal Round. The Seasonal Archery Challenge is Society-wide. The current challenge is called “Piety or Pride” and the rules may be found here: http://www.scores-sca.org/public/scores_rules.php?R=25&Shoot=324. The SPACS and Royal Round are both Midrealm shoots, though the SPACS is open to all kingdoms. Rules for both may be found here: http://www.scores-sca.org/home/index.php?R=9&
I would also like to take this time to announce our Regional Commanders. These people will be attending archery events and collecting recommendations for the Champions team. If you see any of them, please make sure to introduce yourself. They will also be making themselves known to you.
Midlands: Sven Ivarsson

I do have an opening in Constellation that I would very much like to fill. If you are interested, please send an email to
In October of 2013, I was sitting at a Command Symposium during a break, and listening to people tell stories of friends who had been unable to attend Pennsic. This person had unexpectedly lost their job. That person was an eager college student who just didn’t have the funds. Another person had just had a baby, and money was too tight. All of the stories had a common thread – fencers who loved the Society and wanted to help the war effort, but couldn’t because of financial strain.
Thus came the idea – Why not start a Scholarship, driven by fundraisers throughout the year and supported by the rapier community? The Middle Kingdom Pennsic Scholarship Fund was born. (more…)
